A little cross-training

My intention this weekend was to run along the seafront and then follow it up with a sea bathe, but the heavy wind and frankly dirge-inspiring weather put me off, so I went to the pool with my mum instead, at 8am this morning (smug!).

I did six warm up lengths of breast stroke, then eight lengths of backstroke, and then a mishmash of another four lengths (I try to do front crawl but I almost drown, I can't get the breathing right) and two lengths of breast stroke to cool down. I also ran two lengths in the water, as best I could, but it was a bit deep at one end and I couldn't get much traction in the shallow end so it wasn't as good as it might have been.

I may follow this up tonight with a little Davina toning workout. I have noticed a hint of definition in my arms which definitely wasn't there a few weeks ago, so I am going to try and improve it. I am tempted to increase my circuits classes to two a week, just until my wedding, but I don't want to be too tired to run.

I am actively looking for a new pair of running shoes, as well as a variety of other pieces of kit. Ali may have to take me to a running shop and protect me from the snooty assistants when I ask if they have running gear in a size 18.

I can only recommend Asics as running shoes. The gel bits work wonderfully. My first pair lasted me for ages, and I am now the happy owner of a second pair. They're not cheap (but no good running shoes are), but they are amazingly comfy.

Running gear in size 18? Why not? If it doesn't exist, it has to be invented! Everybody has a right to run and wear funky/comfy/cool running gear. Personally I am as poor as a church mouse after buying those shoes, so I will have to stick it out with ancient trousers and faded frayed Tshirts. "Extreme recycling" is after all my other hobby ;)

Hope the weather turns nicer so we can all go and have some splendid dry runs!
